JMC, mainly with its committees comprised of member companies, is currently engaged in the following activities:
Examines trade-related multilateral rules in such fields as market access, rules of origin, competition policy, governmental procurement and intellectual property rights which are considered by WTO, WCO and so on. JMC compiles opinions of the trading industries and submits them via the national government. JMC also creates manuals and reports on multilateral trade rules and commercial regulations of main trading partners.

Continually collects information on the implementation and amendment of regulations on trade-related measures, investment, rules of origin, governmental procurement, intellectual property rights,transfer prices and taxsystems of countries in Europe, North America, Asia BRICs and others. These information is provided to member companies for their decision making on businesses abroad. If problems arise, they can be solved by various measures such as submitting the opinions to the governments concerned.

Promotes FTA with trade partner countries through submission of the industry's opinion to the government and direct talks with counterpart industries.
Conducts research on the trade and investment climate of overseas countries and regional economic integration activities which occur in EU, NAFTA, MERCOSUR and others. Along with providing such information to member companies, the possibility and barriers of trade and direct investment in these regions is examined.
Conveys opinions, via the Japanese government, on overseas trade of goods and services and foreign direct investment to multilateral policy-making organizations such as WTO, APEC and others.

Analyzes competitiveness of world electronics and machinery industries and studies strategies on corporate management, M&A, R&D, intellectual property, information technology (IT), and international alliances.
Submits reform measures to the Japanese government concerning commercial laws, tax laws, accounting methods and other areas in the interest of making institutional improvements.
Studies rationalization and systematization of transportation and export/import procedures with Western and Asian countries, submits improvement measures to the government, and provides related-information for member companies.

Collects information on discussions by international institutions regarding issues such as global warming prevention, trade and environment, and environmental regulation trends. While providing these information to member companies, opinions of Japanese industry are submitted via the government if necessary.
Collects and provides information regarding environmental laws, concerning waste of electrical and electronic equipment restriction of hazardous substances and recycling initiatives, environmental labeling, green purchasing and procurement, as well as environmental regulations of local production areas in Western and Asian countries. Furthermore, opinions of Japanese industry are submitted to the countries concerned if necessary.
Regarding product safety standard and certification, monitors the trends of CE marking introduced by EU. Along with creating corresponding manuals, opinions of Japanese industry are submitted to the EU committee if necessary. In addition, product safety standards and certification systems of EU, Asia, Oceania, Middle and Eastern Europe, Central and South America are examined, and corresponding manuals are created.
Examines the product liability (PL) systems of America, Europe, Asia and others, and creates corresponding manuals for member companies.

Along with providing these information to member companies, proposals are made regarding Japanese export control systems and improved management.
Creates manuals and law books regarding Japanese export control systems, their implementation and changes thereof. Seminars are held to thoroughly inform members of laws and regulations.
Runs trade administration consultation offices and offers consultation services regarding compliance in individual transactions with export control regulations, foreign exchange, foreign trade laws and individual transactions.

From the viewpoint of having smooth foreign trade and investment and as well as supporting developing countries, submits opinions of the Japanese machinery industry regarding Japanese trade insurance systems and their improved management. Furthermore, manuals are created and information is provided regarding trade insurance systems. In addition, along with offering consultation services related to trade insurance, seminars and orientation sessions for individual companies are sponsored.
With special trade insurance policies concluded between JMC and a trade insurance institution, extends more convenient trade insurance services to member companies in order to insure plant and equipment export.
